Ngoc M. Ha
I have developed an obsession with speaking to myself. My work is driven by a desire to record fragments of sentimentality. By capturing both the impactful and the mundane, I explore themes of human experience that trace the emotional residues of everyday life.
I use various mediums, including painting and printmaking, as vessels to archive moments of uninterrupted living. The cadences of my emotions are often difficult to explain, my work is anchored in an effort to communicate.
Sonder is the realization that each passerby lives a life as rich, complex, and vivid as one's own. I see the overlooked rhythms of daily life as the thread that connects us, forming an invisible bond. Through a sonder lens, I aim to evoke this intimacy and shared humanity within my practice.
Bio
Ngoc Ha is a multidisciplinary artist based in Charlotte, North Carolina. She studied printmaking and obtained a B.F.A from University of North Carolina Greensboro. Her select N.C. exhibits include a solo show at Greensboro Project Space, the Goodyear Arts Summer Residency Exhibition, and a group exhibit at Flux Galleries. The British American Business council awarded her a cultural immersion residency for her video work in 2018. The experience with the residency inspired her to pursue engagement with the art community and explore conversations of emotional connectivity through art making practices. Ha delves into multiple mediums as research-based experiments to further investigate conversations voided of human speech. She currently works with printmaking, video installation, and painting utilizing oil and acrylic on canvas, water-soluble paints, and ink on 16mm film.
